Breaking News-Captain Paul Watson to remain in custody

Today, 04 September, Captain Paul Watson appeared in court again to decide whether or not he would be extradited to Japan or released. This follows his earlier arrest on 21 July, when he was arrested by Danish authorities due to a red notice issued by Japanese authorities who were determined to get revenge.

Unfortunately, it was decided that Paul would remain in custody whilst the Danish authorities continue to decide what they want to do with him, as well as decide whether or not they will allow Paul's defence team to play a short 5-second snippet of video evidence which would clear him of the claimed violence charges which is the only charge allowing him to be detained.

Fortunately, all hope is not lost quite yet though, as he has not been extradited and he will remain in Nuuk prison in Greenland for the time being. It also seems that public pressure is working as Paul was also given his right to have an interpreter present and Paul was also removed from handcuffs during the hearing. It is vital that we continue to put pressure on the Danish government and push for his release.

His legal team is in the process of appealing this decision as well, which I am sure will be heard within the next couple of days. There are also discussions going on about involving the ICC due to human rights violations and for not allowing him to show defending evidence.

This story is currently evolving and will be updated in the coming hours as more information is released from official channels.
